Coaches
Prime is a completely volunteer run, developmental, not-for-profit, club field hockey program. The owners, Rick and Jillian Tobin, are a father/daughter coaching duo. Danielle Hartford, recent SSU alum, rounds out the coaching team. In 2020, both Jillian and Rick were nominated finalists for National Coach and National Umpire, respectively. This year we are adding in a couple of coaches in training who have already made great progress. We have a program to help grow young officials as well. Not all paths are to play. Some ref, some coach, and we are lucky to have that balance all in one place.

Jillian Tobin
Head Coach
Coach Tobin has been involved in the field hockey community since 2002, when she was the goalkeeper for Peabody High School. From 2006-2009 she played, on scholarship, DII field hockey at Merrimack College. Since leaving due to injury she has continued to surround herself in field hockey through volunteering and coaching. She is currently the Head Coach at Peabody High, Goalkeeper Coach at Lasell University, and Goalkeeper Coach for USA Field Hockey Nexus program. She has multiple NFHS certificates including Sportsmanship and Title IX as well as Fundamentals of Coaching. She holds her Level 3 NFHS Coach Certificate as well as the National Parent Credential through NFHS. She is a certified strength and conditioning coach working with athletes, tailoring programs to each player. Most of her conditioning athletes are field hockey related but some in other areas. Since founding the program with Coach Rick in 2003, Tobin continues to provide a loving and beneficial community for anyone who wishes to play the sport of field hockey. Many of our athletes and friends of PRIME comment to her for one on one work, a fun release, and/or help in the college recruitment process. She is everywhere and anywhere field hockey is happening and loves the opportunities this type of travel has given not just her but the athletes and other coaches here at Prime.

Rick Tobin
Owner, Administrator, and Coach
Coach/Ref Rick has refereed at the high school level for over 21 years. His referee journey started by simply taking a rules course with his daughter to learn the rules more clearly... little did he know the referee bug bit him and bit him hard. He has been a referee with a level head since 2003. Club players take to him and his personality quite quickly with some actually calling him Coach Dad. He stepped up to the college level within his first 5 years of officiating. He helps transition players into refs, and guides them into a faster relationship with the game. Rick is a level 2 official, a level 1 USA Field Hockey coach, and has been running Prime since its start, alongside his daughter. Rick and Tobin coach together in the USA Field Hockey NEXUS program, helping develop players in the USA player pathway. Whether it is shooting, offensive corner skills, ball control, stick handling skills, or an aerial he can and he is the go to. He will break it down and make adaptations or tweaks for a more successful execution. Rick is a charismatic coach and is always looking for ways to keep our athletes on their toes. He believes strongly in the joy and happiness this sport can bring as well as the personal growth and life lessons. There are very few skills and aspects of the game he cannot provide guidance on.

Danielle Hartford
Coach
Coach D played in 38 games for Salem State University throughout her 4 year college career. Coach D recently got the Head Coach position at Beverly High for the upcoming fall of 2024. She came to us in October of 2018 as an intern during her senior year of college. She graduated in 2019 with a degree in geology. This path sent her into the teaching world, where she is often the students' favorite teacher. Her patience and trust are virtues she is able to help enhance and highlight in our athletes. Upon her graduation, Coach D decided to keep with Prime, a decision we are most grateful for. Coach D has always brought a a level and calm mindset and approach. Coach Tobin praises her as one of the best sideline management coaches she has ever worked with. She coached at the freshman level at Winchester for 2 years prior to the Beverly Junior Varsity Squad. Coach D has also spent time coaching in the USA Field Hockey NEXUS program. But more exciting than working together is that during the regular season Coach D and Coach Tobin will be on opposite sides when Beverly plays Peabody.

Sabrina Wright
Coach
Coach Sabrina played in high school alongside her sister at Everett High. She is now in fact at the helm of the high school team she is so proud to have come from. Being from the town you now coach is a special thing for Sabrina and her passion for the program shines through. While in high school Sabrina came to Prime with no other club experience and rose quite quickly to one of the most reliable forwards and a clear leader. Sabrina I;s a hard-worker with a work ethic that is contagious. Sabrina is one of those select groups of players where playing the sport became part of her identity. She is constantly learning and growing as a player and as a coach. Prime coaches and players alike have made it out to support her in her first year in fall 2023. Coach Tobin and Coach Sabrina actually get to play each other in the regular season as well. This match-up always makes for a good, fun, and cooperative match up. Both team's players enjoy and look forward to this game.

Alyssa Perkins
Coach (defensive focus)
Alyssa is a former defender from Methuen, where she played throughout high school. Alyssa spent the majority of high school playing defense and grew to work closely with the goalkeepers. Her low defense and strong tackles paired with patience made her a keeper's ally. She is a proud Prime alumni and spent a few seasons on our u19- tournament and game play teams. At Prime she did learn to play both sides of the ball, still favoring the defensive unit. She played a year at Lasell University before moving on. Alyssa brings a well rounded view and defensive skill set to the program. Her determination and hard work earned her a spot in college and her athlete story is one that makes our coaches proud. Here at the club level she is a sounding board not only for coaches but also our players. Patience and level-headedness shows in her coaching, playing, and interaction styles. The casual style of play she brings to the table sets the example for a calmer pace. She elevates the person not just the athletes.

Alise Maltsev
Coach
Alise played at Peabody and came to Prime quite frankly by chance. Alise craved challenge and more development inn the sport. She decided to join Prime because a friend was, and boy are we glad she did. We quickly saw she had more to offer than she was comfortable admitting to. She then saw there was field hockey opportunities waiting for her after graduation. She decided to help out with her city's summer league and she excelled. She was offered the junior varsity coaching job at Methuen High as a direct result of her sideline work over the summer. Her freshman year in college she joined Coach Tobin on staff at the Methuen High program. While at Methuen her players constantly reached out to sing her praises. As a coach above her at the time Tobin will tell you while it was nice to hear, it was truly no surprise. On top of coaching, Alise joined the UML Field Hockey Club program and has quickly rose to a leadership role. In fact she helped her program become "Club Sport of The Year" for the 2023-2024 year. Alise's personality and adaptability make her a valued member of the Prime program.

Peyton Petisce
Certified Referee & Coach In Training
(focus on overall skill elevation and strategy)
Coach Peyton played at Methuen where she excelled playing all 4 years on varsity and making an impact in each one. She has a defensive skill set that earned her spots on both defensive and offensive corners. While playing for Prime she was integral to the teams success, adding value and getting the best from her team. It was evident coaching would be natural for her, but then she took quickly to the referee role as well. She began reffing in high school games and scrimmages while still in high school. She has worked closely with Rick to develop those skills in the off season. Peyton played her first year at University of Mount Olive before transferring home and continuing play and education at Gordon College. Her defensive skills and knowledge of the game structure and rules brings a unique benefit to our club. Her technical skills and breakdown of the play has proven to be a solid asset.

Izzy Putnam
Coach In Training (focus on goalkeeping)
Izzy is one of the newest additions to the coaching group. She played at Methuen High as a goalkeeper. During her time there she had impressive statistics earning her a spot on the All Conference Teams and All Star Teams while on varsity. She had a season that included over 10 shutout games. Izzy started with Prime as a freshman in high school and put in the work. She would come for practice and league days from start to finish quite often; this gave her the chance to play for teams without a keeper. Her drive to make her family and coaches proud shows through everything she does. Izzy She began her college journey at RPI, and is now taking classes at her our pace. She works with the Methuen program in the fall with the focus being on keepers.

Jacqueline (Jackie) Scopa
Coach & Referee in Training - Current Brand Ambassador and Head of Good Vibes
Jackie came to us at Prime in her junior year of high school. Her hunger and drive was obvious immediately and with a few refinements her skills skyrocketed. She was a captain and letter winner while in high school. She was a pivotal player at club since her first day. Lovingly given the nickname of "sonic" due to her fast ball and off ball movement, she has continued to live up to the name in college play. She earned a spot on the Lasell University squad and contributed to their statistically record breaking season. She was named to the NFHCA All Academic Squad. In the spring of '24 she decided to add lacrosse back into her list of activities when she joined the Lasell team. Jackie is a dedicated and loyal team member who pushes people to be their best. As a coach that same sense of drive shines through. She is a piece of sunshine and hope when even our best grow discouraged.

Patrick Newman
Certified Referee & Coach
Shooting and Offensive focus
Patrick joined us while his older sister was already involved and constantly growing. Pat is a staple at any Prime event, from birthdays, to practice, tournaments, and commitment signings. There are few that have the passion for the game quite like him. He is not only a coach but a referee as well, many of our athletes' teams end up seeing him in regular season on the sidelines with his whistle.
He has a beautiful shot and loves working with other Prime athletes on shooting strategy and how to own and build their own on net strategy.

Courtney Tello
Coach in Training
(goalkeeping focus)
Courtney Tello is an asset to Prime's growing staff. She just finished her senior season 24-25' as the starting goalkeeper at Lasell University. She played all four years at school, seeing many accolades. Her patient and teacher demeanor is definitely a strength when working with younger or less skilled athletes. We are proud she has joined us in this capacity.

Zoe Martin
Coach in Training
(goalkeeping focus)
Zoe came to Prime with her sister Nicole. They both played and anchored the Haverhill High teams while in high school. Zoe followed her sister's path and became a goalkeeper. At some point in their early time with Prime, the two girls became more than just keepers in the program. Zoe tried and experimented with field play but saw quite immediately that she belonged between the pipes as her sister, and maternal role before her. There was never a tournament or showcase where Zoe wasn't one of the last keepers on the field. She would attend tournaments and end up playing for any team down a keeper. Zoe participated in the USA Field Hockey Nexus program and saw a great deal of growth. When in the recruiting process she was closely watched and followed by a few schools, and then COVID put a hault to almost everything. During this time she took a gap year to grow and experience the world around her. This payed off and made her stronger. Now going into another year at Castleton she looks toward the future season with excitement and determination. Zoe brings a dynamic playing style, quick reflexes, and a natural understanding of the game to the program. As a coach she is understanding, patient, knowledgeable and kind.
